so says the child to his parents

v     Involve me in decision – making when decisions are shared, it also means that I cannot easily brush off responsibility.

v     Never point out my shortcomings in public.

v     Always acknowledge rather than deny my feeling, perceptions, experience. Wait to restore peace and resolve incidents when emotions have subsided.

v     Communicate love and affection even after an argument or a difference of opinion. Dialogues between you and me should never stop. Give me unconditional love.

v     Don’t be afraid to be firm with me. I prefer it. It lets me know where I stand.

v     Don’t always use force with me. It teaches me that power is all that counts. I will respond better to someone who is in control.

v     Don’t do things for me that I can do for myself. It makes me feel like a child and I will never learn to take care of myself. I’ll just depend on you all my life.

v     Don’t let my ‘bad habits’ get all your attention. That only encourages me to do them more.

v     Don’t protect me from consequences. I need to learn from my experiences.

v     Don’t demand explanations for everything I do. Sometimes I have no idea why I act the way I do.

v     Don’t put me off when I ask honest questions. If you do, I will just stop asking and get my information elsewhere.
